Edgar parked his blacked out BMW sedan at the curb in front of the Charles Morris Bank on Santa Monica Boulevard. The passenger door swung open and a young Mexican hooker leaned her head out and spat a mouthful of semen onto the sidewalk. Then she closed the door, disappearing again behind the dark tints. She was wiping her mouth with a tissue while Edgar was buckling his jeans.

“I can walk from here,” she said.

“You sure? I’ll just be inside for a few minutes, then I’ll drive you wherever you want to go.”

“No, it’s ok. This is a rich neighborhood. I want to walk.”

Edgar pulled out his money clip and peeled off a hundred dollar bill. He held it out for the girl, who was busy reapplying her dark red lipstick in the sun visor mirror. She smacked her lips together then turned and smiled at him. Her teenage face was not yet hardened by the street life, but it was only a matter of time.

“Thanks baby.” She took the crisp hundred from him and stuffed it into her tiny purse along with her tube of lipstick.

They both stepped out of the vehicle. Edgar popped the trunk and removed a small duffle bag containing four hundred thousand in large denomination bills. He stopped on the sidewalk and watched the girl walk away, her long thin legs somehow balancing in some ridiculous high heels. She was good. So good he almost asked for her phone number so he could see her again. But in the end he decided not to. She was just another nameless whore and there were plenty more just like her crawling the streets of Los Angeles. Having sex with the same woman over and over again eventually made you catch feelings. And love always leads to trouble. Always. There was no room for love in this line of work. Better to just treat them like the mindless cum rags they are and discard them after use. The job was his top priority, for now.

Edgar stepped into the cool air conditioned bank and was greeted with smiles from the staff.

“Mr Hernandez! Good to see you! Please, right this way!”

A man in a dark blue business suit waved for Edgar to skip past the counter area and come into his private office. It’s amazing how good people treat you when you’re bringing in heavy bags of cash every month. If he was just some wetback laborer trying to cash a paycheck they wouldn’t even give him a smile. But that’s why he loved this country. People can talk all the shit they want about America, but regardless of your skin color, money was the great equalizer. Those paper bills weren’t racist at all. It didn’t matter if you were black, white, Asian, Indian or an uneducated Mexican kid from the ghetto. You could get those big bags of money too if you were willing to put in the work. He dropped the duffle bag onto the desk as the man closed and locked the office door behind him.
